Student strives to
find career For freshman Tanika Boyd, Hutchinson, there’s no sense in rushing to make decisions on the future. She figures she has all the time in the world to make the right career choice. Until then, she's just going to take it easy and get through college.
Boyd, who’s major is undecided, is attending HCC to find out what she wants to do in life. She’s aware of the unlimited options open to her, which makes it hard for her to fully decide. Boyd would much rather pick the right one the first time instead of switching majors all the time. “English is my strong point, so I could see my self majoring in that,” Boyd said. “But I could never teach because I lack the dedication.” Boyd decided it was a wise choice to attend HCC rather than head right off to a university, mostly because she wasn’t ready to pay the money to attend a university. Boyd currently attends school full-time while also working for the Hutchinson Public Library. “I’d like a job where I could make a lot of money,” Boyd said. “Lying, cheating, stealing, I’ll do whatever it takes. Maybe I should just go into politics.” Although Boyd is still weighing out her possibilities for a career choice, she has one philosophy on life that she’s been following — “Always happy, never satisfied.” Boyd plans to continue furthering her college education. “I’m having to attend class now because if I miss
anymore I’m in big trouble,” Boyd said. Editors Note: Every student
is on a unique journey. Pathways tells the stories of HCC students
chosen at random. |
