National complaint month starts a little late; writer shares pet peeves
By April Lukenbach

I’ve decided to name this national complaint month even though the month is nearly over. I will be setting an example of first-class whining so that others can see how it’s done.

•Notice all the rain we’ve been having? It's irritating because you spend the day soaking wet and very few people seem to have an umbrella handy for days like this.

If you have a book scholarship, rain is more than irritating.  It could cost you quite a bit of money. If your books happen to get really wet, or damaged, you will be required to pay for them. I think someone is praying for a lot of rain.

•The NJCAA basketball tournament takes up the entire Sports Arena parking lot.

Because of the tournament, HCC students are forced to drive around searching for a parking spot that’s not miles away.

When it’s raining, it is even more annoying. Normally, students would park at the church on Plum, just west of the Cosmosphere.

Unfortunately, there was a function there that further limited parking. They even blocked off the Cosmosphere parking.

•We don’t have a soccer team here, neither a men’s nor a women’s varsity and not even a co-ed intramural team.

Even Buhler High School and Hutchinson High School have soccer teams.

“We don’t have a field,” some whine.  Can’t we use Hutch High’s soccer field? After all, it’s been payed for by the city there should be no reason why we couldn’t use it too.

•Bought any gas lately? It’s up to what, $1.52? I’m pretty sure it’s going to keep on rising.

I remember when gas was 98 cents.  I’m only 18 so it really wasn’t that long ago.

Now I know that we are pretty well at war against Iraq, but should we really be paying so much for their oil?

•Now here’s one of my favorite pet peeves: rude people. They’re everywhere.  You can’t avoid them. I work retail and people can be such pains.

A woman came into my store and decided to take a dump in the fitting room.

Yes, you read that correctly. She apparently thought it would be funny to leave her feces in the fitting room.  She proceeded to wipe it all over about $150 worth of clothes.

Then, to further prove her utmost stupidity, the items that she bought were payed for with a personal check. Nice isn’t it?

I’m sorry to say I’m all out of room. Further complaints will continue at a later time.
