Seven Dragons earn Sprinting back to Kansas State University this weekend, the Hutchinson Community College Indoor Track Team participated in Nationals after a great outing at Regionals the week before. Earning four All-American honors at nationals and the men placing 14th overall with 16 points and the women ending the contest at 17th overall with six points was no small feat to end the weekend. Sophomore Alex Sawyer earned All-American honors with a third place finish in the 1,000 meters. Sawyer went into the Region VI tournament ranked fifth in the nation and backed that ranking up with a giant sweat, running a 2.35.22 to claim the third spot in the race. Sophomore thrower Obie Harmon put up a fourth place finish in the 35-point weight event. Harmon hurled an amazing 49 feet, 11 inches to earn his All-American title. Another All-American outing was by freshman Nicole Gibbs. She earned honors with a sixth place finish in the high jump with a height of five feet, 13 inches. The last All-American event HCC took home was the women’s 4x800m relay team. Consisting of sophomores Jessie Neufeldt, Judith Suffolk, and freshmen Chelsea Blaufuss, and Kayla Pringle, the team ran a 9:57.36 to finish third and earn their status as All-Americans. As the indoor season wrapped
up, the outdoor season begins with the Bethany
College Invitational on Saturday, March 13th. |
