Magnetic Resonance Imaging

MRI Program

Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Registered Technologists is a nine month program.  Admission to the program is limited to registered technologists and by selection. Curriculum includes basic MR physics, physics for advanced procedures, studies in sectional anatomy, MR safety and clinical experience.  Upon completion of the academic and clinical portions of the program, students are eligible to sit for the MRI registry examination.


HCC offers two options for students interested in the MR imaging program.



Two Options Available



OPTION A

Consists of a clinical and didactic component. An option A student, upon successful completion, will have an understanding of MR physics and multiplanar imaging sufficient to take the national registry exam.The student will also have meet all  clinical guidelines set by the ARRT for Magnetic Resonance Imaging giving that student eligibility to obtain national certification in MR imaging.


OPTION B

Consists of the didactic component only. This option is reserved for individuals currently working in the MR imaging modality. Application for option B must be accompanied by proof of employment or training in the MR field. An option B student, upon successful completion, will have an understanding of MR physics and multiplanar imaging sufficient to take the national registry exam.

Minimum Qualifications:

All applicants must be either ARRT, NMTCB, or ARDMS certified, or be registry eligible upon the start date of the MR program.You must also complete the following requirements by the dates specified by the program facilitator:


Option A Applicants

  • Be currently registered with the ARRT, the NMTCB, the ARDMS or be eligible to take the ARRT registry within the year of application.
  • Submit a completed application to Hutchinson Community College by June 20, 2014.
  • Submit a completed application to the Hutchinson Community College MR program by June 20, 2014.
  • Submit 2 recommendation forms completed by any Allied Health professional by June 20, 2014.
  • Complete 8 hours of documented observation time in an MR department by June 20, 2014.
  • Submit a typed no more than two-page description of their observation including an explanation of their personal interest in MR imaging, and clinical location preference by June 20, 2014.
  • Pay a holding deposit of $250 by June 20, 2014.

Program enrollment is to be completed by phone.  Enrollment does not mean the student has been accepted.

 


Option B Applicants

*Holding fees are refundable only in the event that the student is not accepted to the program. Deposits are not refundable.

  • Be currently registered with the ARRT, the NMTCB, the ARDMS or be eligible to take the ARRT registry within the year of application.
  • Submit a completed application to Hutchinson Community College by August 1, 2014.
  • Submit a completed application to the Hutchinson Community College MR program by August 1, 2014.
  • Submit 2 recommendation forms completed by any Allied Health professional by August 1, 2014.
  • Submit a typed no more than two-page description of their experience in MR imaging by August 1, 2014.
  • Proof of current employment or training opportunity in an MR imaging department.
  • Completed form indicating contact person at their place of employment or organization granting MR training opportunity. (Contact person must be willing to proctor exams and complete some paperwork).
  • *Submit a $50 deposit by August 1, 2014.

Application Information

The Hutchinson Community College MR program has a limited number of clinical sites available at this time; therefore, meeting the requirements does not guarantee admission into the program.
