Philosophy

The Health Information Management Program at Hutchinson Community College provides instruction and professional practice experiences to assist students in developing the HIM Associate Degree Entry-Level Competencies – Domains, Subdomains and Tasks of a health information technician. These are developed by the Board of Commissioners of the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education. The program also provides instruction and professional practice experiences for the certificates in Professional Medical Transcription and Health Coding Specialist. The Health Information Program staff is committed to providing the best possible learning environment for the student. Every effort will be made to meet the individual needs of the student within the framework of the college requirements and professional standards. Each student is expected to accept responsibility for his/her own education and to make full use of the learning opportunities offered by the College.
